FLIGHT OF THE GIBBON THE GREENEST ATTRACTION

BY MATIAS BERRA

To be absolutely honest with you, when I found out we were doing a special 'Green Pattaya' take on the different attractions we offer tourist , I might have drawn a slight blank... are there any environmentally friendly activities in Pattaya? It was research time.

Of-course It wasn’t too long into my detective work that I came across 'The Flight of the Gibbons'. Though I have certainly seen the posters and advertisements throughout the city, I had never taken the time to investigate a little bit further what they exactly offer, and let me tell you, I was happily surprised at what I found out!

I have never considered how much work and effort actually goes into building, maintaining and  running this rainforest zip-line course. So before we get deeper into the article I just wanted to
thank Ben and all the staff at the flight of the Gibbons who allowed me to see and enjoy this wonderful jungle experience

It's all about the safety:

Straight away you will notice that safety is certainly important at the flight of the Gibbons. After the multiple safety briefings, you are basically told not to do anything: The guides will ensure you are always hooked to the safety lines and move along in the right direction.  “One of the factors that make flight of the Gibbons such a great and interesting activity is that you get a sense of adventure whilst your there but at the same time you don't really have to do that much or put yourself in any danger at all”

One of the factors that make flight of the Gibbons such an interesting activity is that you get a sense of adventure whilst your there but at the same time you don't really have to do that much or put yourself in any danger at all.

As you would probably expect, the course is child friendly as well. As long as your kid is taller than 1 meter, there won't be any issues at all! Along the same lines, there's also a limit of 130 kg for a person's weight, but other than that, this activity can be enjoyed by everyone regardless of their age, sex or body-build!

What to expect:

If you are anything like me, you love figures and statistics, so let me share some of the numbers that make the flight of the Gibbon's one of Pattaya's most popular and Eco-friendly attractions:

A total of 23 raised platforms that will allow you to experience the rainforest like never-before.
3km of course that include 14 zip-lines, the longest of these being an impressive 300 meters long and a double zip line that will permit you to fly through the forest's canopy in pairs.
Aerial views of the entire rainforest from beautiful tree houses, hanging bridges and raised stations, some of these more than 50 meters above the ground! So you are certainly in for a treat
A chance to experience nature by immersing yourself in it without causing any damage. Remember this entire attraction has been thought out to allow people to get extremely close to nature with the smallest amount of impact.

From their constant concern with our safety to the very interesting details they would often tell us about, the trip would not have been as enjoyable as it was without the ranger's positive and helpful attitude.

Other than the wonderful sights and adrenaline pumping zip-line flights, it was really nice to notice how committed the guides were to creating an enjoyable, fun and educational experience. From their constant concern with our safety to the very interesting details (like the species of trees and animals found around the rainforest) they would often tell us about, the trip would have not been as enjoyable as it was without the ranger's positive and helpful attitude.

Conclusion:

Though slightly doubtful when I first started out on this experience, I can now rest assured that at some level, there are tour operators that do indeed care about the ecological side of tourism. There's a huge amount of time, money and resources invested in the flight of the Gibbons, and all of that really shows during this hour and a half jungle adventure.

I was also happily surprised to find out that a portion of the profits earned by the Flight of the Gibbons is used to support environmental projects around the country.

I was also happily surprised to find out that a portion of the profits earned by the Flight of the Gibbons is used to support environmental projects around the country. Though most efforts are done in northern Thailand in the reforestation work that is gaining a lot of traction in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, there are talks of organizing other environmental projects around our area in Chonburi as-well as in some of the newer locations such as their latest station in Cambodia which opened it's doors earlier this year.

Overall, this attraction definitely fulfilled and surpassed my expectations. I would certainly recommend the Flight of the gibbons to any families, couples or traveling groups that are looking for an adventurous day out that is also extremely safe, it can also be a great corporate day out too! The Go-gibbon obstacle course, in particular, is an amazing team building activity that is as challenging as it is fun!

Interactive, adventurous, educational and extremely safe... What else is there to say?

As far as Pattaya goes, the flight of the Gibbon should be high up on your to-do list as it allows you to experience nature in a way you never have before.
