Pattaya City Expats Club

PCEC Meeting – Monthly Review –January 2009

The Pattaya City Expats Club (PCEC) meets every Sunday at the Amari’s Henry J. Bean Restaurant at the northern end of Pattaya Beach Road. The format of the meeting is similar each week. There is normally a guest speaker, sometimes more than one, an announcement of Forthcoming Events plus an Open Forum, usually a lively and entertaining session, when questions can be asked or information exchanged. The atmosphere is relaxed, informal and friendly and everyone is welcome. If you weren’t there, here are the highlights of last month’s meetings.

At the Sunday, January 4 meeting, Emcee Roger Fox welcomed back the well known magician Dr. Penguin, (Pictured here below  ) who has previously demonstrated his skills to the Club. However, his appearance was not to do a magic show, but to talk about his trip to China for the Olympic Games.

Dr. Penguin said he was invited by the Beijing Olympic Committee and the City to perform on stage.  He described his experience including both the difficulties and the highlights. The tight security and somewhat oppressive nature of Chinese officials were some of the difficulties, whereas the camaraderie and antics of other performers were the highlights.

Emcee Richard Silverberg welcomed our January 11 speaker Drew Noyes,(Pictured below)  ( a long time member of the Club and former Chairman). Drew has been a well known businessman in Pattaya for the past 12 years and recently became involved in publishing a new English language Newspaper in Pattaya.  He described how his new paper, Pattaya Times, differs from the other English language papers available in Pattaya, not only in appearance, but also in its focus on positive news. He also provided free copies of the paper’s first edition to the audience.

On January 18, Emcee Roger Fox introduced Dr. Benyapha (Benny) Chinwetchakitwanit, M.D. , who is with the Psychiatric Center at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.  Her topic, while about depression, was not depressive but rather an interesting and informative talk on the subject of Depressive Disorder.  Dr. Benny (Pictured here above) explained how to identify the symptoms and the treatments available. One of the most common causes is a hormonal imbalance, which can be corrected with today’s antidepressant medications. Other causes can be treated with medication and therapy sessions.

At the January 25 meeting, Emcee Stuart Saunders called on fellow member Thor Halland to introduce Jennifer Mackenzie, (pictured here)  medium extraordinaire, as Jennifer is Thor’s mother.  Jennifer said that the last time she spoke to the Club, some 3 years ago, she primarily discussed and demonstrated spiritual healing. So, for this presentation, she would discuss and demonstrate her abilities as a medium.  She then called on several members of the audience and, after asking them for their 3 favourite colours, described certain traits they had.

She then would receive the spirit of one of their loved ones, describing them and their traits to the audience member called on, which often led to recognition of a departed mother, father, or close relative.
