The Future of Education: A young person’s perspective.

Here is the Runner Up’s article by Deo Thamin

In a fast-paced world where anybody can access knowledge whenever, new systems and methods would most likely be introduced into the future of education. This could change the entire educational system as we know it.

Technological Advancements

As technology continues to evolve, it opens up new doors for students and educators to implement a different way of teaching and learning. The introduction of online classrooms has already started to shape the way in which students and educators organize their work. Who says that we will need classrooms or schools anymore? Artificial Intelligence (AI) may be the biggest change which could impact the system. This is due to information being easily accessible which reduces workload by providing personalised information. Educators are already using AI as a reliable tool which makes planning lessons a breeze. However, this may result in too much reliance on AI if it is implemented into the system further.

Further job Development

As technology develops, the job market changes. Schools may have to mold the required lessons and remove what is not needed as jobs may be taken over by machines or AI. By teaching new subjects, this would prepare students for jobs which don’t exist yet. It is predicted by The World Economic Forum ‘Future of Jobs’ report 2025 that 78 million new jobs will emerge by 2030. Teachers may lose their jobs or become more like mentors rather than teachers.

Mental health and well-being

The growing awareness and understanding of mental health and well-being may be implemented as a required lesson to be taught in school curricula. 12 billion working hours are lost annually due to mental health conditions. This type of knowledge can change educators’ understanding of students and prepare them to deal with these issues, which may also make them adapt their way of teaching. Education stands at a crossroads, as the growing knowledge of mental health and the evolution of technological developments grows this will impact the job market. These would affect the curriculum and systems in a way that we wouldn’t expect and from a young person’s point of view, it could make the future of education look unrecognisable
