Why Muay Thai is quickly becoming the top fitness choice for everybody:
Though Thai boxing is famous for it's violence and tough competition, the sport posses amazing advantages to those looking to get back into shape. Because of it's training style, which focuses a lot on core muscles , agility and both lower and upper body strength, Muay Thai training is one of the most complete exercise regimens that exist.
We were lucky enough to get an exclusive interview with Mr. Paul Winsor (Paul Thailand on Facebook) on of Sin-city's most active and professional personal trainers who is, one customer at the time, making Pattaya a fitter city. Let us share with you what 10 years of experience have taught Paul about the benefits of Muay Thai to those seeking to get healthier.
It's Not About the Violence:
Because each single individual will have different objectives before starting their training, Muay Thai can be a dynamic and adaptable sport for many types of people. If you, like most candidates who are looking to find a fun and healthy sports choice, don't want to start exchanging punches with other trainees then you mustn’t worry: You don't have to get onto the ring unless getting real fight experience is one of your objectives.
“Whether it's about learning about self-defense, increasing your self confidence, overall fitness or even spiritual enlightenment, you don't have to worry about climbing onto the ring and getting punched in the face”
People decide to start their Thai Boxing training for varied reasons, whether it's about learning about self-defense, increasing your self confidence, overall fitness or even spiritual enlightenment, you don't have to worry about climbing onto the ring and getting punched in the face. In any case, Muay Thai has an amazing and enjoyable training style that is adaptable and appropriate to all, children and women included!
The Health Benefits of Muay Thai:
So we talked a little about the reasons why people want to start training, now let's discuss a bit further the actual benefits Thai Boxing will bring into your life. Keep in mind it is very important (Paul was quite insistent about this point) that all candidates must show a lot of commitment for around 12 weeks before noticing the following results:
Calorie burning: Take it as an estimate (because it will depend on your weight, metabolism and intensity of the exercise), but you will burn an average of 1200/1300 calories per hour when practicing Muay Thai which is about the same amount you would burn if you were running for that same amount of time. This means you can burn huge amounts of extra energy while doing an activity that is (for most people at least) a lot more fun and more beneficial to your overall fitness than if your were 'just running'.
Weight loss: Because of the point above, if you also focus on a healthy nutritious diet that provides less calories than the amount burnt during training, you will lose weigh quick! (Again, some people's metabolism will allow them to lose weigh quicker, but everyone will benefit from some weight reduction)
Core muscle strength: Core muscles are the most important muscle system, they help coordinate the movement of your entire body. Luckily for all those Thai Boxing fans, Muay Thai training exercises constantly focus and strengthens them.
Muscle Building: As you might have guessed, when practicing Thai boxing you will also be forced to hit the gym and work on your muscle strength, it won't be too long before you start noticing your body bulking up!
Self-esteem: Not a physical benefit per say, but certainly a very important factor for a healthy and happy lifestyle. It won't be too long (like we said before, about 12 weeks will do it) before you realize how much better you are feeling and looking! You will certainly get a big confidence boost as your skills, energy levels and body start to improve because of your training.
“[Women] are also noticing how sexy it is to actually be a bad-ass-thai-fighting babe”
Women and kids are welcome!
Yup, Thai boxing is good for everyone! Women are starting to see all the benefits they can get from Thai boxing including self-defence (they are also noticing how sexy it is to actually be a bad-ass-thai-fighting babe). When considering the youth, self discipline and respect are some of the most important values training with a real Ajarn can teach kids, and keep in mind Thais start practicing at ages close to 6 years old, so there's not a bad time to start training!
