School
Watch
Welcome to
this month’s look at life at Assumption College Sriracha, the largest school in
the Eastern Seaboard.
Assumption’s students have been busy in and out of the classroom, as some have
been taking English language exams while others competed in the school sports
day.
For more
information on ACS, visit
www.acs.ac.th. The school runs a variety of English language courses and has
30 foreign language teachers.
Students take Cambridge
tests
Top students have taken a series of international exams to assess their level of
English.
Prathom students recently sat Cambridge’s Starters, Movers and Flyers exams in
St Mary’s Building.
Then Mathayom students took Cambridge’s Key English Test (KET) and Preliminary
English Test (PET) in the Montfort Building.
Assumption College Sriracha is now an official examining centre for these exams.
The English Department is keen for more students to take these exams, because
they are an external test that independently looks at a student’s ability.
If
you would like to take one of the exams, talk to your class teacher.
Loy Kratong
A
traditional Thai festival was celebrated at Assumption recently.
Loy Kratong is a special occasion where people make floating Kratong and place
incense sticks, flowers and candles inside. They then push the Kratong off and
say a prayer.
As
well as a Miss Loy Kratong contest, Prathom students pushed their own Kratongs
off, watched by parents and teachers.
Many of the students in Assumption’s Saturday morning classes also made their
own Kratongs.
Japanese-Thai fest
Konichiwa!
A
town near Pattaya turned Japanese for a day for a special festival.
The first Thai-Japanese festival was held in Sriracha on December 1. The town's
health park played host to dozens of stalls and a stage.
Hundreds of Thai and Japanese visitors came to sample food, try on traditional
Japanese dress, or watch children from local schools dance.
Assumption College Sriracha played a large part in the festival. At its stall
students were busily making paper ghosts, which are said to ward off rain and
bad luck, while on stage Assumption's secondary students put on a memorable
dance show.
Sports Day
fun
Assumption’s students jumped, ran and threw as they took part in this year’s
sports day.
The games
took place over two days as the school’s students were split into different
coloured teams. They then competed against each other in various track and field
events to see who would come out on top.
The first
day included a grand opening ceremony, which featured the school band and some
colourful cheerleaders.
