Those of you who are familiar with Soi 13 Pattaya Beach Road will be aware of the Sportsman Pub and Restaurant which has been a drinking and eating institution in Pattaya for just under twenty years.
As well as offering live sports from FI to the Premier League, the Sportsman has a golf society and offer Visa services. But it is their excellent food and drink that entices this lively pub to it's patrons. The menu to say the least, is extensive a full range of western and Thai meals to suit all palettes.
To start with there are a vast range of All Day Breakfasts , snacks, starters, toasties and sandwiches. If you fancy something a little more substantial then delicious traditional favourites and gut busting burgers are a staple daily offering.
Then for a tasty lunch or a lighter option, the Sportsman creates succulent salads with zingy dressings and piquant pastas served with garlic bread and dusted with freshly grated parmesan cheese.
Incredibly the food does not stop there, the Thai menu is a very extensive 20 items long and is a good as any Thai food served in Pattaya. And perhaps for the British and Australian punters there is an Indian curry section with a classic starter selection of samosas, bhajias and Bombay potatoes with the relevant dips and chutney accompaniments. The main dishes are classic curry house fare; Tikka masala, Madras, Korma, Vindaloo and Jalfrezi simply pick your meat to create a perfectly authentic curry.Make sure you leave enough room for dessert as the traditional English puddings and pies are too good to ignore, there is even a cheese platter which is rather a rarity in Pattaya restaurants.
The Sportsman has Daily promotions which are great value for money and are hard to beat. For instance on Mondays all draft Heineken is 99B and on the following day Guinness is 170B. Wednesday offers Burger & Chips plus a San Mig for a very sporting 195B and if you happen to be in the pub on a Friday then the All you can Eat Buffet (pizza, pasta & salads) is a steal at 249B. Of course the Sportsman still offers its famous Sunday Carvery including 2 soups, 5 roast meats and all the trimmings at 425B. Or for something a little different try a Lamb Doner Kebab served with fresh salad and homemade chilli & garlic mayo, at 175B it is cheaper than many of the roadside vendors and twice as tasty.
The Sportsman is much more than a great sports pub. Regulars and visitors alike are equally welcomed and there is always something going on. From fun promotions like the monthly Samsung Galaxy draw, Tuesday’s Quiz Night with free pie and chips to the regular Daily Specials food promotions all washed down with ice cold beers and select wines from the extensive wine list.
If you have never visited the Sportsman then do yourself a favour and pop down there one afternoon or evening for a game or two of pool and judge for yourself the food and drink on offer and the more than friendly service.
