St Andrew’s International School One Day, One Goal 2016
By Gaz Booth
The 2016 “One Day, One Goal” Charity football event -hosted by United Football- took place at St. Andrews International School, Green Valley as the dark grey clouds above looked ominous but thankfully never resulted in a downpour.
This year’s charities funds were raised for : The Shelter, Take Care Kids and Fountain of Life. Through sponsorship, donations and entry fees our 2016 event looked to be the biggest yet.
As usual the morning session began with the football tournament. 53 teams from 8 schools comprising of 400 children, made for a fierce competition and our biggest turn out ever. The standard was extremely high and St. Andrews once again proved to be a force to be reckoned with. When all was said and done St. Andrews came away with 4 out of a possible 8, 1st place trophies. Children as young as 5 through to 13 showcased their enthusiasm, ability and skill all in the aid of a good cause. Every Baht raised from their entry fees has gone to one of the 3 charities.
In the afternoon as the tournament came to a close, the focus shifted to the children from our charity groups. They were treated to an afternoon of football coaching, basketball coaching, swimming lessons and play time on the bouncy castle. It is the least we can give back to the community and the kids clearly got a lot out of it.
Our Parent Teacher Group (PTG) once again played a pivotal role in the day, keeping everybody fed and hydrated throughout the day was no mean feat. Several other stalls were in attendance including: The Marriott Rayong and The Pattaya Rayong Ladies Circle. Also our CAS Crew students were on hand to keep children entertained and help run the afternoons activities.
The children were also given gifts courtesy of Hanky Panky Games and hats courtesy of United Football. At time of writing the total money raised and donated to our charities is well in excess of 150,000thb!
Alumni visit Green Valley for inaugural reunion day
A group of around 25 Green Valley Alumni members braved the elements and paid a visit to their former campus for an afternoon of socialising with friends and teachers as well as some friendly sporting competition. The afternoon was considered an unparalleled success with students and teachers alike enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, the chance to reconnect with old friends and teachers and the chance to give staff a run for their money on the football field and the basketball court.
The alumni really pushed staff to the brink in the Basketball competition, it could have been the age gap, or maybe a few too many mince pies over the Christmas break but whichever way you cut it- 10-8 to alumni girls and 12-8 to alumni boys speaks for itself.
When the action moved over the football pitch the tables turned with the staff getting a reprise thrashing the alumni 6-1 on a pitch which one Alumni describe as ‘a bog’ after the torrential rains. Sour grapes maybe.
The day culminated in a courtside party and BBQ where the staff and ex-students had a chance to mingle, catch up and share memories of their time at St. Andrews. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
