Welcome to Pattaya Bargain Hunter, my name is Belinda and before living in Pattaya I was a buyer in London’s West End. An important part of my job was to look out
for items of quality, value and with that certain special something. Now I look out for bargains in and around Pattaya to share with you.
If you see any bargains around town that you would like to share let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will be happy to go check them out for inclusion on my page.
Since living in Thailand I no longer feel the need to rush to the shops for the “First Day of Sale”. The queue around the block for the Harrods January sale is a distant memory and the need to be the first to get the one off designer special no longer such a “need”. Don’t get me wrong there is still plenty of good shopping to be found in Pattaya and Bangkok but due to the lack of seasonal variations in our climate it kind of takes the pressure off when buying clothes over here. That’s why I prefer rummaging round in August when the Final reductions and Final sale rails are out in the stores. “Guess” for example in both Central Festival and Royal Garden will start with 30% off signs and then go through to 70% which on a recent purchase of a really unique jacket goes a long way from the original price of 7,990 baht to 2,397. Likewise a great handbag or purse doesn’t have to be picke. d up during full price season – unless it’s a “must have” impulse or occasion purchase. Far better to wait for the absolute best possible price . The same with shoes where often it’s the larger /non Thai sizes that are left at the end of the Sale. Yes August is a great for mopping up the best of the sales and in Central the other day I even saw my first 80% off and when the shops finally declare “Buy one Sale item get another Free” – Well that’s just like taking “candy from a baby”!
I also think this year has been particularly good for finding home wares and interior design bargains – maybe it’s a knock on effect from the fall in condo sales around town but fewer home purchases = fewer homewares purchases = great bargains for those of us already here and cruising the many stores around town. Again there is a great opportunity for rummaging in the “bins” often at the front of the stores or at the end of gondolas. However be warned when the lure of the excellent discount is great it’s always important to ask yourself “Do I really need this?” “Do I have space/ as place for this” when I bring it back to my home and even as we can all be repeat purchase shoppers “Have I already got something quite similar already”?
